New Year holiday special: Celtic Connections 2016

This week’s Celtic Fusion programme on 100.8 Revival FM on Tuesday 3 January 2017 at 8.00pm features a first broadcast of a Celtic Connections 2016 New Voices original commission piece called “The River” from Hamish Napier.

The Celtic Connections 2016 commission was performed to a capacity audience and recorded in the Strathclyde Suite of The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on Sunday 13 February 2016.  Watch the short video below.

Hamish is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Grantown-on-Spey in the Scottish Highlands and is now working in Glasgow’s vibrant music scene.

He has worked with Capercaillie’s Karen Matheson, Phil Cunningham, Treacherous Orchestra and Eddi Reader. He has toured internationally with award-winning folk quartet Back of the Moon and now more recently with ‘Nae Plans’.

The second half of the programme features a recording from the Hazy Recollections sessions on Sunday afternoons during Celtic Connections at the ABC02, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. There are performances from Winnipeg group The Small Glories and from Glasgow, Angus Munro who lists his influences as Ben Folds, The Devine Comedy and Rufus Wainwright.
