Revival FM at Celtic Connections

New talent at Celtic Connections 2016 with New Voices: Hamish Napier on Sunday 17 January 2016 at 1.00pm in the Strathclyde Suite within The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Revival FM will be recording this concert and chatting to Hamish Napier for future transmission about his New Voices Celtic Connections commission work.

The Highland-born composer and multi-instrumentalist Hamish Napier combines close-to-home focus with characteristic invention in his New Voices composition, The River, inspired by the mile-long stretch of the Spey beside which he grew up.

Says Napier: “My great-uncle photographed it professionally, one brother loved to fish it, the other canoed it, my mother paints it, and then there’s my father’s daily fascination with its erratically changing water level.” Hamish Napier river

From these memories and associations, Napier has created a series of vivid “sonic images”, performed by a line-up including Ross Ainslie, James Duncan Mackenzie, Sarah Hayes, Tom Gibbs, David Milligan, James Lindsay and Martin O’Neill.  This gig in the Strathclyde Suite sees Hamish both premiere and launch the album of ‘The River’ simultaneously – his eagerly awaited first solo release.
