TTBA Album of the Month: new from ELO

From Out of Nowhere’ is the 14th studio album by British rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), and the second credited to Jeff Lynne’s ELO. The band’s first studio album in four years, it was released on 1 November 2019 through Big Trilby and Columbia Records.

Jeff Lynne stated that the first track he wrote for the album was the title track, and said it was named “From Out of Nowhere” as “that’s exactly where it came from”.

It’s themes of “hope and salvation” and optimism also appear throughout the album.

During November and December, Revival FM’s Ian Arbuckle will be playing tracks from this new album on his ‘Turn The Beat Around’ programme on Wednesday evenings from 8.00 until 10.00pm and with a Saturday afternoon repeat at 3.00pm.

The latest full-length release for the reformed British rock band was produced by Jeff Lynne with contributions from album engineer Steve Jay.

The Guardian newspaper reviewer stated: “Like its predecessor, Alone in the Universe, this new album is entirely good-natured, firmly in the lineage of classic ELO, without ever quite hitting the heights of the past. How far this autumnal romance will go remains to be seen but, for now, what a pleasure it is to have Lynne back.”

TTBA – Wednesdays 8.00-10.00pm and Saturday afternoon’s 3.00-5.00pm.
